An award winning clarinetist, vocalist and guitarist, Stanley "Cool Pops" Smith has received Best Instrumentalist awards from the Austin Jazz Critics polls for each year since 1992 for Best Clarinetist and in 1997 for Best Acoustic Guitarist. He is admired for his smooth, buttery vocals and steamy clarinet performance. Recently Stanley has performed on the movie soundtrack from 20th Century Fox feature "The Newton Boys" on Sony Records. Stan has performed in over forty recordings in the last 5 years including: David Byrne, Terry Allen, Santiago Jimenez Jr. and many more. He has opened for acts such as Taj Majal, Cannonball Addery, Mose Alison, Leon Redbone, Richie Havens, Maria Muldaur, Bill Monroe, and John Hartford to name a few. He is currently splitting his time with the National touring act The Jazz Pharaohs and the International touring act The Asylum Street Spankers.
